How Many A4 Sheets for Every Poster Size (2026 Chart)
Quick Answer: A4 Sheet Counts for Common Poster Sizes
Printing a poster by tiling it across A4 sheets? Here is exactly how many pages you need. The counts below assume standard printer margins (about 10 mm on each side, so each A4 contributes roughly 190 × 277 mm of image).
| Poster size | Sheets wide | Sheets high | Total A4 sheets |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 × 50 cm | 3 | 2 | 6 |
| 60 × 90 cm | 4 | 4 | 16 |
| 70 × 100 cm | 4 | 4 | 16 |
| 1 × 1 m | 6 | 4 | 24 |
| 1 × 1.5 m | 6 | 6 | 36 |
| A2 (42 × 59.4 cm) | 3 | 3 | 9 |
| A1 (59.4 × 84.1 cm) | 4 | 4 | 16 |
| A0 (84.1 × 118.9 cm) | 5 | 5 | 25 |
How the Math Works (Calculate Any Size)
An A4 sheet is 210 × 297 mm, but your printer cannot print edge to edge. With normal margins, each sheet gives you about 190 mm wide × 277 mm high of usable image. The formula:
Sheets wide = round up (poster width in mm ÷ 190)
Sheets high = round up (poster height in mm ÷ 277)
Total = sheets wide × sheets high
Example: a 50 × 50 cm panel. 500 ÷ 190 = 2.63 → 3 wide. 500 ÷ 277 = 1.81 → 2 high. Total: 3 × 2 = 6 sheets.
What Changes the Count
- Overlap: adding overlap for easier gluing (recommended 5–10 mm) slightly increases the sheet count. Posteriza lets you set this in the Size tab.
- Borderless printing: if your printer supports it, you gain back the margins and may need one fewer row or column. See our printer guide.
- Letter paper: US Letter (216 × 279 mm) gives about 196 × 259 mm usable — counts are nearly identical, usually ±1 sheet.
- Orientation: rotating tiles 90° sometimes fits better. Posteriza handles this automatically when you pick rows and columns.
Paper Planning Tips
Buy about 10% extra paper — test prints and the occasional misfeed are normal on big jobs. For a 1 × 1.5 m poster (36 sheets), a 50-sheet pack of matte photo paper covers it with room for mistakes. Heavier paper (200–260 gsm) looks far better than copy paper for wall display; see our paper guide.
Tabela em Português: Quantas Folhas A4 por Tamanho
| Tamanho do pôster | Folhas (largura × altura) | Total de folhas A4 |
|---|---|---|
| 50 × 50 cm | 3 × 2 | 6 |
| 60 × 90 cm | 4 × 4 | 16 |
| 70 × 100 cm | 4 × 4 | 16 |
| 1 × 1 m | 6 × 4 | 24 |
| 1 × 1,5 m | 6 × 6 | 36 |
| A2 | 3 × 3 | 9 |
| A1 | 4 × 4 | 16 |
| A0 | 5 × 5 | 25 |
Fórmula: arredonde para cima (largura em mm ÷ 190) × (altura em mm ÷ 277). Compre ~10% de folhas a mais para testes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does adding overlap change how many sheets I need?
Slightly. A 5–10 mm overlap makes gluing much easier and usually adds 0–2 sheets on large posters. Worth it.
Can I print an A0 poster on A4 paper?
Yes — about 25 A4 sheets tiled 5 × 5. It takes patience to assemble, but the result is a true 84 × 119 cm poster for the price of paper.
How much paper does a 2-meter-wide poster need?
A 2 × 1.5 m poster needs roughly 11 × 6 = 66 sheets. At that size, compare the paper+ink cost with a professional print service — sometimes outsourcing is cheaper.
Is it cheaper to tile on A4 or use a print shop?
For posters under ~1.5 m, DIY tiling on A4 is almost always cheaper (a few dollars in paper and ink). Above that, get a quote from a print shop first.
What if my printer only has Letter paper?
Use the same formula with ~196 × 259 mm usable area. Sheet counts come out nearly identical to A4.
